This comprehensive course will provide you with what you need to safely administer Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation in a clinical setting. Successful completion of this course will allow you to apply for RCDSO authorization in minimal or oral moderate sedation.
This course has a pre-requisite, 'Review of Dental Emergencies in the Dental Office' which is a full day and will take place virtually on October 13, 2023.
The course is 2 full-days with both didactic and hand-on technique training. Prior self-study of the course material is required. All participants will be evaluated on technical aspects and didactic components to ensure competency.
Part one / Day one: 'Review of Dental Emergencies in the Dental Office' which is a full day and will take place virtually from 9:00 am – 3:30pm on October 13, 2023.

1. Review of Emergencies in the Dental Office
Objective: The general dentist will have an increased aptitude to recognize signs and symptoms of potential office emergencies and will be equipped with the knowledge to intervene appropriately.
Please Note: This is a pre-requisite for the course entitled Oral and Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Course #2 below).
A multiple-choice exam will be administered, and successful completion is required to be considered to have successfully completed the course.

2. Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation
Objective: The purpose of this course is to provide the clinical and didactic skills for dentists to administer Minimal Sedation effectively and safely by either Nitrous Oxide or Oral medicant, or to administer Moderate Sedation with the above routes independently or in combination.

Successful Participants will:
- Have independently studied the course materials prior to the course.
- Successfully compete the prerequisite course of “Review of Emergencies in the dental office”.
- Successfully complete both multiple-choice exams for Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation.
- Be considered competent during hands-on demonstration of the technique skills required for both sedation administration and airway management.
- Register with the RCDSO to attain their authorization to offer Oral and Nitrous Oxide Sedation in practice.

Dentist Anesthesiologist
Dr. Prince completed his dental training at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in 2014 and is a graduate of the Dental Anesthesia Program at the University of Toronto. In addition to private practice, he is a part-time clinical instructor at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto and an is an inspector for the RCDSO. Dr. Prince is the course instructor for multiple Core-1 courses for University of Toronto’s ‘Continuing Dental Education’ department.
